    The School Mental Health Awareness Day is co-sponsored by the Kansas Association of School Psychologists, the Kansas School Social Workers Association, and the Kansas School Counselors Association.

    The School Mental Health Awareness Day will help communicate the importance of school mental health.  Participants will also have the opportunity to meet with Kansas Legislators and advocate for school mental health services. Please schedule with your representatives and senators before arriving. 

    Schedule of Events

    9:00-11:45 AM- Guest speakers related to advocacy and school mental health (speaker details will be updated as they are confirmed.)

    12:00-1:00 - Lunch

    1:00 - 4:00 - Committee meetings and meeting with legislators

    $10 Registration includes lunch.  Due to limited space, registration is limited to KASP members/constituents at this time. If you are a member of KSSWA or KSCA, you may register for this event through your organizations website.

    I am excited to announce that the Central Region Meeting for the Kansas Association of School Psychologists has been scheduled for Thursday and Friday, March 7-8, 2019. We have the opportunity to partner with the Reno County Education Cooperative and provide a virtual workshop from CASE (Council of Administrators in Special Education). The workshop will run all day (times will be announced soon), with lunch provided. The workshop will be held at ESSDACK, 1500 E 11th Ave #200, in Hutchinson. 

    Each Day will be a self contained workshop. Participants can register for each day separately or both days. Cost is $20 per day for KASP members, and $30 per day for non-members.   Due to the virtual nature of this workshop and time zone differences, we will have a working lunch which is included in the costs, along with snacks.

    Presented by Julie Weatherly, Esq.

    Julie J. Weatherly, Esq. is the owner of Resolutions in Special Education, Inc. with attorneys in Birmingham and Mobile, Alabama and Naples, Florida. Julie is a member of the State Bars of Alabama and Georgia, and for almost 30 years, has provided legal representation and consultative services to school districts and other agencies in the area of educating students with disabilities. She has been a member of the faculty for many national and state legal institutes and is a frequent speaker at special education law conferences. Julie has developed a number of videotape training series on special education law and has been published nationally as a part of her trainings, workshops and seminars. She is the author of the legal update article for the National CASE quarterly newsletter and is a member of LRP’s Special Education Attorneys Advisory Council. In June of 1996, Julie appeared with Leslie Stahl on CBS news program “60 Minutes” to discuss the cost of meeting the legal requirements of the IDEA. In 1998, she was honored by Georgia’s Council for Exceptional Children as Georgia’s Individual who had Contributed Most to Students with Disabilities, and in April 2012, Julie received the National CASE Award for Outstanding Service.
